BACoS names new Executive Director

The Belgian American Chamber of the South (BACoS) has named Michael Chen its new Executive Director.

Michael replaces Bram Vandenbroucke, who oversaw BACoS’ hugely successful walking dinner during the historical Belgian Trade Mission headed by HRH Princess Astrid in June 2022.

Michael is excited about his new role. ‘Having lived and worked in Europe and the United States for over thirteen years, I always consider myself a facilitator and communicator who wants to bring people from vastly different cultural and professional backgrounds together. I can really identify with the crucial role BACoS has played in forging enduring connections between Belgian and American business communities and professionals. It’s an honor to have our Board place their trust in me.’

The next big event on BACoS’ calendar is the annual King’s Day festivities held in November. To build on the success of the Trade Mission, BACoS will help sponsor this year’s celebrations organized by the Consulate General of Belgium in Atlanta. Michael looks forward to working closely with the Consulate and BACoS members to make this year’s event a success.

Michael comes from a background in academia and cultural and art advisory services. He recently obtained his PhD from Ghent University, Belgium. A native of Shanghai, he moved to the United States eight years ago with his Belgian partner, and they now live in Marietta with their Ohio-born Labrador Retriever. In his spare time, Michael enjoys hiking, camping, and traveling. He is also actively involved in the vibrant Belgian American community here in metro Atlanta.
